Leadership Actions

Some actions that are being taken locally is that the people from Mutsun Indian descent have a piece of land in the Indian Canyon in San Benito county. They are growing plants that they use as medicinal. They continue to restore the land and plant native plants, and plants that they use in their foods and to cure. They have events, some are open to the public other you need to be invited to attend. Some of their events are close to only their people. This goes on to show us that they continue in the town, I wish that in the future we are able to see a section in town dedicated to them that includes a replica of their homes and other things that they used. At the San Juan Historic Park they have a room where they have some of their weaved baskets and artifacts that they were able to keep.

On October of 2005, the Oakland Tribune talked about a group of Mutsun Indians were fighting to be able to receive federal assistance.  Recieving child care assisstance and getting prescription drugs will really improve their lives.  Today they continue to teach their children about their culture and tell stories that were told to them. Many of the Indians want people to know that they continue here and want others to know that they continue to have their culture.  There they have tried to restore some of the plants they used and continue to use for herbal and medicine use.
